How do plants grow?

Here are a few of our favorite books about plants.
Look how carefully we use our paintbrushes to watercolor our flowers.
Our science experiment to see how water travels from the bottom of a plant to the top.
We snapped the celery stalk to reveal the veins that carried the water to the top of the plant.
There is nothing better than giggles and grins as we learn!
We sure can do a wonderful job writing our first and last names on lined paper!
In this activity we are cutting and pasting labels for our paintings.  We use the words blossom, stem, leaf, and roots to label our artwork.

Learning About Insects

Watercolors make our butterflies colorful and pretty.
At this station we use our tiny fingerprints to create red ladybugs & yellow bees.  We add detail using a black marker.
Here we are doing Ladybug Math.  First we add, then we color the ladybug according to the answer key.
This independent work station allows us to work on our Letter of the Day book.  We draw the letter, stamp the letter, and practice reading words that begin with that letter, too!
More students working on Ladybug Math.
More students completing their Letter of the Day book.
Look at their concentration.  I am proud of how they work so hard each day!
Math can be so much fun!
Look at how many friends can work together on a project like this.
We love our Reading Buddies!
Nice work, boys!
Here we are using Lego bricks to estimate & measure, and then write our answers.  We measured 6 different objects at this activity station.
Michael's mom brought in baby chicks to share with the class.
We couldn't believe how cute and soft these little chicks were!
They made sweet little sounds in our classroom.  So adorable...
Michael's mom told us that these chicks would grow up to lay eggs for their family.
We were able to have hard boiled eggs for snack, too, from Michael's big chickens!

Our Solar System

Here we are using scissors to cut out our words.  After we sort, we glue the words so they make sense.  This sentence reads, "I can see the sun."  What smarties!!

Do you see how we used toothpicks and marshmallows to create our own constellations?  Very cool!
We get to have a different Reading Buddy each day.  We take turns listening and reading.  We are such great readers!

We love reading to our buddies each day.
We love working as a team to complete the big floor puzzles.
Our tabletop activities give us an important job to do each morning.
More of our tabletop activities.
Look how she rolls the die to see if the letter is a b or d.  Then she marks the results on the graph.  Which letter will she roll the most of today?  Great for letter recognition!
We love to use the clipboards.  Here this big  boy is finding words around the classroom to write on his list.
This tent is a very cozy spot to look at books with our friends.
We love mixing colors to create a painting of the sun.
